The raw vines are used either as complete poles for framing or processed to various widths for weaving. A rattan pole, once steam moulded, retains its contours permanently and makes an ideal framing material. For weaving the outer skin is split, whilst the inner core provides the whole, or split, round canes. When woven on to either wooden or metal frames, following traditional methods, the cane provides a strong surface that is both durable and comfortable.
